Mission & Main Objectives:

This is an exciting opportunity to be part of one of the North East’s highest profile manufacturing plants as we are expanding our operations at our battery manufacturing plant in Sunderland. We are looking for Control Systems Technicians to join our Maintenance team in order to support current production as well as the development and operation of a world class and innovative mass manufacturing Gigafactory. This is a unique opportunity to join one of the most exciting, large scale industrial developments in many years, where new and emerging technologies will be adopted in support of the rapidly growing electric vehicle marketplace.

 

You will be supporting the maintenance department during complex control system related breakdowns as the technical lead. Also work within a cross-functional team to assist the continuous improvement of plant equipment and processes. The CST role is required to elevate our production systems to high levels of reliability and flexibility.

Outline and Responsibilities:
  • Problem solve during breakdowns, assisting the maintenance teams with complex PLC code and associated hardware, connected equipment and other control systems.
  • Undertake responsibility as ‘subject matter expert’ such as vision systems, robotics, warehouse management etc.
  • Lead, participate and implement process and equipment improvements, working cross functionally with Engineering, IS/IT and Production departments.
  • Project manage smaller projects from concept to hand over.
  • Link between Maintenance Department and IS/IT during high level concerns and breakdowns.
  • Be able to understand, troubleshoot, design, develop and analyse software logic from various automation systems.
  • Liaise with technology companies to work on future projects, system modifications or breakdown resolutions, this may be online, onsite or offsite.
Experience and Qualifications Required:
  • Candidates must be time served with and electrical/electronic apprenticeship, recent roles should show a strong PLC and control system background.
  • Candidates must have a strong maintenance background, high speed automation preferred.
  • Educated to HNC/BTEC Level 3 and/or multiple years relevant experience, further education qualifications desirable.
  • Ideally candidates will also have experience in small scale project management.
