AESC UK builds its 50 millionth electric vehicle battery cell in Sunderland.
Since 2012 AESC UK has built enough cells to power the equivalent of 250,000 electric vehicles.
Over 79 of the staff who were here at the start of production are still with us today, including Maintenance Supervisor Kevin Strange, from Chilton, County Durham.
Along with our most recent recruit SCM graduate Will Sopp, from Sunderland, he is pictured holding a commemorative framed cell to mark our latest milestone.
Will joined AESC, the same week we announced our fifty millionth Cell. A Northumbria University graduate he was excited by the opportunities that company had to offer.
Maintenance supervisor Kevin Strange was part of team that established the plant and started battery production in 2012. After over a decade with AESC, he’s still enjoying the challenge.
Construction of our second UK gigafactory is well underway and will bring a six fold increase in capacity, meaning there will be many more milestones to come in the future.
