Mission & Main Objectives:

We are looking for an experienced Facilities Acceptance Testing Engineer to join the Safety, Health, Environment and Quality Department at AESC UK.  The ideal Candidate will support the safety systems of AESC UK and provide advice on the safe and efficient running of equipment.

As a F.A.T. Engineer you will be a critical part of the selection and acceptance team for the sourcing of plant processes and equipment used in the manufacturing of lithium-ion batteries for automotive and energy storage. Joining an established cross functional team, you will be an essential part of the business.

Outline and Responsibilities:
  • Review of equipment design
  • Inspection of new and existing facilities to ensure the safe functioning of manufacturing equipment
  • Functional testing of safety features of equipment
  • Confirm compliance with relevant BS/EN/ISO machinery safety standards
  • Confirm compliance with CE and/or UKCA requirements
  • Confirm compliance with legislation e.g. Provision and Use of Workplace Equipment Regulations (PUWER)
  • Confirm compliance with relevant industry best practices
  • Support facility installers with problem solving and root cause analysis
  • Participate in the whole FAT process and the countersignature of acceptance results
Experience and Qualifications Required:
  • Relevant qualifications to the role e.g. Engineering or electrical degree or equivalent
  • A qualification (or working towards) in Health and Safety would be an advantage e.g. NEBOSH Certificate or similar
  • Previous experience of Facility installations and acceptance in a high-tech environment
  • Working knowledge of the requirements for CE/UKCA conformity
  • Working knowledge of BS/EN/ISO safety standards for machinery
  • Ability to read and understand electrical and plant schematics.
  • Strong PC and presentation skills including MS applications, MS Project and AutoCAD
  • Ability to give expert advice and support during the Statutory Approval and construction process.
  • Ability to work in a team
  • Good communication and problem-solving skills

Working as part of a cross functional team (FAT and engineering) and reporting to the Senior Safety, Health, Environment and Quality Manager, the FAT Engineer will support the business to ensure that all machine and plant selection is compliant with UK legislation (and/or adapted to meet these).

The potential for foreign travel exists within this position with expectations of two-to-three-week periods carrying out factory visits (Japan, China, South Korea). This shall include assessment of facilities drawings and documents to ensure compliance.

Due to the challenging nature of the new Gigafactory development, this role requires an autonomous, self-starter with the ability to lead from the front. The successful applicant will be an effective communicator with a flexible and adaptable mindset, capable of working as part of a team.
